Insanity is in the air

I know I've posted about crazy things at my job before but today was another priceless example. In this part of the country, the news reported that it was going to be a partly cloudy day with warmer weather. Our building principal must have listened to this report with a great deal of attention. That's wonderful but she forgot to look out the damn window. Yes, you guessed it. Every grade level from kindergarten through 5th grade had outdoor recess. This as the damp air chilled our bones and the misty rain pelted our faces and curled our hair. I actually had kids come up and ask me, "Do you know its raining?" I mean, come on. Give me a break. Talk about feeling like a second class citizen or feeling sorry for the kids! Mine is a job that has to be experienced to be believed. Mere words cannot do it justice.
Then, after this part of my day was over, I returned to the quiet upheaval that is known as kindergarten. After a few brief moments, I was treated to yet another job perk. A five year old, while coloring a picture that had to do with spring, announced in a rather loud voice, "I screwed somebody once." This was shocking to even the kids at his table and they all asked him to repeat it. He once again announced, "I screwed somebody once," and then laughed a dirty laugh. The other teacher and I looked at one another. I quickly turned around because I thought I was going to burst. As soon as a regained my composure, I called the boy over and asked him what he said. He wouldn't dare repeat it so I asked him if he knew what he said and what it meant. He told me he didn't so we agreed that anytime we don't understand the real meaning of a word, we won't use it in school.
Ah my job....and you thought I was in it for the money.
